The UN Mapper of the month - June 2022

Yacouba Diarra, a young geographer from Mali, is the mapper of the month for June. Yacouba is an excellent trainer, committed to the mission of making OSM and its tools known in his community. He has participated in our courses and was the best mapper during the buildings mapathon in Tripoli, conducted together with OSM Libya.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a geographer in training, a finalist student at the University of Segou (Mali) in the field of Territory Management. I have followed many training courses, especially in GIS, reaching the level of Expert contributor in OSM with JOSM. I lead trainings in the IT field on Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Internet, in our cyberCafé in Bamako.

How did you know about UN Mappers?
I knew UN Mappers thanks to the YouthMappers Chapter of the University of Segou. I had a great experience with the UN Mappers training, it allowed me to make my modest contribution to the promotion of peace. The UN Mappers iniative is good for saving the World.

When do you map?
I usually map in my spare time, especially on weekends.

Do you enjoy mapping? Why?
I love mapping, first out of passion and then to save the World by contributing to facilitate access to cartographic data. My motivations: to always continue to contribute, to have, in addition, the most important notions of cartography, to be in connection with visionaries. Mapping is an excellent communication tool for governance.

In which countries do you map the most?
The most mapped country: Mali.
